Nigerian Polo Team set for FIP World Cup Regionals

THE National Polo Federation of Nigeria (NPFN) has stated that it would participate in the June 2011 World Polo Cup which is scheduled to take place in Malaysia.

Secretary of NPFN, Alhaji Muhammed Baba Kyari, who disclosed this to sports journalists at the weekend in Katsina, stated that preparation was already underway to ensure the participation of the Nigerian team.

Kyari said NPFN had made consultations with all stakeholders including its life president and Emir of Katsina, Dr. Abdulmumini Kabir Usman, on the organisation’s plan to participate in the world competition.

He said the new executive of the polo federation had taken the development as a challenge to bring positive change in the game, adding that new measures would be introduced in order to bring discipline amongst all participating polo teams.

He maintained that the new executive would ensure that the game of polo is not dominated by the rich alone, but by only those interested in the game no matter their background.

Meanwhile, the Emir of Katsina, Alhaji Kabir Usman, has called on the executive members of the NPFN to bring about positive changes into the game.

The royal father, who made the call when he received the new executive members of the NPFN who paid him a courtesy call in his palace, said he would continue to give the body needed advice whenever he was called upon to do so.
